From wide metal strip to the perfect cup shape – in a single, highly efficient process step. Our HTPT cupping systems form the first and decisive stage in the process chain of high-volume thermoforming production. They are designed to maximize material utilization and provide the basis for any high-volume production – whether battery cups, aerosol cans or ammunition casings.
Machine principle & mode of operation
Our cupper is a specially developed mechanical press that forms extra-wide metal strips into precise cups in a combined blanking and cupping process. Mechanical energy and a precisely controlled ram stroke ensure reproducible results at maximum cycle rates.
The process is divided into three coordinated steps:
- Blanking – circular blanks are punched out of the fed metal strip in circular or oval shapes. By using extra-wide strips, several blanks can be removed simultaneously per stroke – for maximum material utilization and maximum productivity.
- Cupping – Cup forming – The blank is positioned on the die. The punch moves down powerfully and presses the blank – supported by a precisely controlled blank holder – into the die cavity. The result: a defined, reproducible cup geometry.
- Ejection – After forming, the blank holder retracts and the finished cup is automatically ejected from the die – ready for the next process step.
Performance features
High speed
Mechanical presses enable extremely high stroke rates – our cuppers achieve production rates of up to 2,000 parts per minute. This makes them the first choice wherever maximum output in continuous operation is required.
Precision
The mechanical design ensures precise and repeatable control of the depth and shape of the buckets – stroke by stroke, part by part. Tight tolerances are reliably maintained, even at high cycle rates.
Material efficiency
Our HTPT Cuppers are consistently designed to optimize material utilization. The raw material requirement is minimized and the yield from each coil is maximized thanks to the targeted division of blanks in the extra-wide strip.
Redraw systems – further processing in transfer presses
The cups produced are then further formed in downstream transfer presses (redraw systems). Typically, 2 cups are processed per stroke – a process that doubles production output and is particularly optimized for high-volume applications.
In these redraw systems, each cup passes through several forming stages until the final component geometry is achieved – precisely, efficiently and fully automatically.
